How did this game get released? Besides being brutally violent, including the ability to smash junkies with the heroes’ cars, the game is stocked full of drug culture. Some enemies even attack the player with dirty hypodermic needles! Defeated enemies may be either arrested for a cash bonus or executed for fun! The gameplay is something of a combination of Contra and Double Dragon.
the libertines were a band from 97-2004. they were very popular in england, earning a #1 album on the UK charts. then pete doherty loved drugs too much, so things got fucked up, and they split. here are some bands they are in now: Babyshambles, Dirty Pretty Things, and Yeti. one more thing: Mick Jones of The Clash produced their albums.
you can find it on Soft Rock… which is out of print.
Lifter Puller, a.k.a. LFTR PLLR, is one fantastic, defunct band. they existed between 1994 and 2000 in minneapolis, and two of the members are currently in The Hold Steady. Everything about this band is amazing, but one thing i really love is the “lifter puller folklore”. you see, many of the songs have lyrics that contribute to an ongoing story involving a small cast of characters. these pretty much ALWAYS involve heavy drug use, nightclubs, and sex. so… in other words… SOOO GOOD!
check out an archived version of the old lifter puller site right here.
So, have people been following the decapitations that have been going on lately? I’m not sure if decapitations happen regularly around the world or if it’s just being reported heavily due to the really weird one (Yes, must be extremely weird for a decapitation to stand out as really weird.) that happened on the Canadian Greyhound bus. But anyway, I guess it might not be completely due to the ease of being able to reference readers back to a top story because the decapitations kept happening in Mexico.
The first Mexican decapitation article I read about was back in early August of this year. The initial article was vague and stated something along the lines of, “A few bodies were found without heads. There was a message written on their backs. The end.” Since that article, I’ve read about a few more beheadings:
Aug 27: In Tijuana, three decapitated bodies were found with attached, drug-related messages. The burnt heads were found at a separate, nearby location.
Aug 29: Eleven headless bodies were found in Yucatan, again, with messages and burnt heads found nearby.
Oct 20: Four heads that were originally mistaken for medical use were received at a police station in Ascension–a northern Mexican city that neighbors a Ciudad Juarez, which has had over 3,800 drug-related murders this year.
There’s a lot more drug-related violence, kidnapping, scandal, protest and murder that has been happening in Mexico. You can read the articles here.
Being removed from the situation, I don’t really have much to comment, other than it’s interesting and shocking and this is one of the reasons you shouldn’t use illegal drugs that you have no idea where they came from. So I will say that I’m looking forward to Scarface II: Tijuana Invasion.
TAIPEI (Reuters) – A Taiwan man grieving over the death of his girlfriend climbed inside a morgue freezer to be with her and was only pulled out alive half an hour later, media and an official said on Tuesday.
The 41-year-old man was discovered on Monday when workers detected an unusually high temperature in the freezer and realized the hatch was not securely fastened.
“A morgue manager opened the hatch, saw two people lying inside, felt scared enough to yell out and then even cried,” the Liberty Times reported. “She didn’t stabilize for a long time.”
The man took a drug before entering the freezer to speed what appeared to be suicide attempt, local papers said. They said his girlfriend died on Friday from an overdose of sleeping pills.
The morgue would step up security to ensure that family and others who come by to identify bodies do not stay too long, morgue administrator Chang Lung-ching said.
