Awesome picture book illustrators #6: Johnny Gruelle

Unlike many of the other illustrators in this series, Johnny Gruelle wrote most of his works.  He secured his fame with his creation, Raggedy Ann (and Andy).  He is best known for this series of books but he illustrated several others, as well.

  1. While I am second to none in admiration for the artists you feature, especially Jon R. Neill, I would greatly appreciate seeing something on the neglected Vernon Grant!

  2. I’m not even familiar with Vernon Grant so I’ll have to look into it. In truth, I’m far from an expert on this topic but it’s something I’m currently exploring. Any other recommendations?
