If you don’t want to click on the link then just know that the latest model of the iPhone launched today and, typically, Apple fucked the whole thing up. They had a global server fuck-up and all the new customers were fucked. Wow. Seriously, these sorts of things are becoming semi-annual events for Apple. The more they focus on image the worse and worse their products become and the MORE IDIOTS KEEP BUYING THEIR STUFF.
Look at the iPod Classic failure rate: http://squaretradebuyerblog.typepad.com/squaretrade/2007/12/ipod-classic-fa.html . 12% is really bad. The only other tech product of the last few years that I can think of with similar problems is the Xbox 360 and that issue was heavily covered in the press. Why are the crappy Apple products not covered as heavily? Is it because all the reporters love their pretty Macs?
The fact is that today there isn’t much difference between a typical PC and a Mac. The hardware isn’t that different and Apple has even used former archenemy IBM’s processing chips at points during the last decade. The main difference is the operating system and the price – you’re basically paying a few hundred $$$ more for the Apple name.
I think Apple was a pretty cool company back in the 1980s. The original Mac was extremely innovative with its graphical user interface, built-in screen, and mouse. Then Microsoft ripped them off with Windows and Mac has ever since drifted toward selling itself on image alone. Maybe they should be KEWL again.
